73 Questions with Pilar Bradley

Meet Pilar Bradley. Pilar is a senior at New Orleans’ Cabrini High School, whose love for fashion is greater than anyone I can think of. An aspiring fashion journalist, Pilar has her eyes set on the Fashion Institute of Technology and starting her own sustainable and inclusive fashion magazine. She is even a writer at oneul zine. On a scale of 1-10, how excited are you about life right now? I’d say 7. I’ve been super busy with style bundles and college applications! Excited for what’s to come though.

If your life was a musical, what would the marquee say? “​ but make it fashion…”

What’s one thing people don’t know about you? ​As much as it may seem that I have my life together, I don’t.

What’s your wakeup ritual? ​On a good day, I wake up, brush my teeth, make my bed, and put a cute outfit on. On a regular or school day… it takes everything out of me to get up. I usually just brush my teeth, pack my lunch, grab my keys and hope for the best.

What’s your go to bed ritual? I usually listen to music, do some skin care, read some articles, chat with friends, and then I go to bed.

What’s your favorite time of day? Is golden hour a time?

What is one thing no one knows about you? ​I’m absolutely terrible at being romantically affectionate.

Dream country to visit? ​Italy! I’ve always wanted to go to Milan. I also want to visit Abu Dhabi.

What’s the biggest surprise you’ve had? ​I’d say my 5 seconds of tik tok fame.

Heels or flats? Heels.

Vintage or new? ​Vintage.

What can you tell us about your new style bundles? ​They’ve been keeping me busy, but I love doing them. I’m literally shopping all day.

What are three things you can’t live without? ​My mom, my phone, and my closet.

What’s one ingredient you put in everything? ​Probably Butter. Not the healthiest option!

What 3 people living or dead would you like to make dinner for? ​Hard question because I’m a ​terrible ​cook. Definitely Zendaya, Alexa Demie, and Bella Hadid.

What inspired you to start your blog, Style Me by P? ​Since the beginning of high school, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in fashion. More specifically, fashion journalism, a highly competitive field. Writing was always something I was good at as well. I knew I needed experience, plus blogging was always something I wanted to do! I love sharing my thoughts about fashion on my platform, and I hope it continues to reach anyone interested.

Most adventurous thing you’ve done in your life? ​Hard question, but probably swimming with Dolphins in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

What are three words you would use to describe yourself? Ambitious, dramatic, and loyal.

Favorite piece of clothing you own? ​I can’t pick!! My most recent closet staple has been my leather jacket. It fits so well. 

Must have clothing item everyone should have? Straight leg jeans. Or a cute mini bag:)

Superpower you would want? ​Teleportation.

What’s inspiring you in life right now? ​Living in NYC and running my own fashion empire!!!

Best piece of advice you’ve received? “​Never be a follower. Always be a leader.”

Best advice you’d give your teenage self? ​Focus on you. Be your most authentic self and don’t let superficial problems get in the way of your career.

A book that everyone should read? ​I’m a true Percy Jackson fan, so definitely the PJO series.

What would you like to be remembered for? ​Definitely my style, but more importantly an inspiration for latinas and women of color in the fashion industry.

How do you best define beauty? Confidence!!

What do you love most about your body? Definitely my hair.

Best way to rest/decompress? Pretty sure anyone relate to this, but definitely laying down in my bed.

If your life were a song, what would the title be? ​Primadonna Girl. Already a sing by Marina and the Diamonds, but it’s too relatable for me.

If you could master one instrument, what would it be? ​The harp. It’s such a beautiful instrument.

If you had a tattoo, where would it be? Honestly, my star sign.

Dolphins or koalas? Dolphins!

What’s your spirit animal? Pretty cliche considering I’m a Leo, but definitely a lion.

Best gift you’ve ever received? My car 🙂

Best gift you’ve ever given? A Tory Burch bag.

Why New York? ​It’s the fashion capital of the world, and the ambiance is truly like no other!! Plus, the fast-paced, go-getter energy is what I need.

What’s your favorite color? Gold and aquamarine.

Least favorite color? I honestly don’t have one.

Diamonds or pearls? This is a hard one, but diamonds.

Drugstore or designer makeup? Designer is better quality, but for convenience and affordability, drug store. You can get the same results, if not better ones with drug store makeup!

Blow-dry or air-dry? ​I have very thick hair, so I usually air dry for convenience. If I’m going somewhere or I want to look presentable, blow dry.

Coffee or tea? ​Coffee.

Where do you plan to apply to college? ​My first choice is the Fashion Institute of Technology! I’m also applying to LIM, SCAD, FIDM, and Parsons for fashion journalism. For journalism/communications, I’m applying to Boston University, Pace, Brooklyn College, LSU, and Loyola.

What are your plans for after college? ​My goal is to get internships at world-renown fashion publications, which will allow me experience with being a full-time fashion journalist. I eventually want to work for a fashion magazine, and eventually create my own inclusive fashion publication.

Worst thing to happen to you today? Being assigned way too much homework!

The best compliment you’ve ever received? Very specific, but: “I’ve never met anyone like you. You’re a force to be wreckoned with.”

Favorite smell? ​Prada Candy is my favorite perfume, but lavender is my favorite scent.

Hugs or kisses? ​Hugs, for sure.

If you made a documentary, what would it be about? Probably my journey from childhood to breaking into the fashion industry.
